Two dates just announced: December 5th and December 17th. Why are these important?

We have three monogrammed and personalized gift lines that have announced December 5th as the absolute cut off date for Christmas Delivery. Why? Because these lines are custom made to order from the time you place your order...before you place your order your item doesn't exist. Elves don't pull it off the shelf and ship it to you. We have a battery of elves that create your personalized gift order from raw materials and this takes time.

Clairebella! GORGEOUS custom gift products such as monogrammed iPhone 4/4s cases, iPad 2 cases, ipad, ereader and tablet cases, personalized platters, trays, and custom dinnerware from Clairebella must be ordered by December 5th to make Santa's Sleigh and can't be rushed.

Some Monogram Necklaces and Earrings! Don't worry, we've marked each item with its own cut off date so you'll know which pieces have a deadline of a December 5th order. They are the ones that are hand cut, so as you can imagine it takes a bit longer to produce these items.

Every second Friday of the month, Historic Downtown Wake Forest comes alive with what is known as "Art After Hours". Downtown merchants are open until 9pm, with their door propped open on mild evenings welcoming you in to take a look around. Our downtown is totally unique with its boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries. Sometimes you'll hear musicians playing on the street, in the shops or in the cafes, there is always something new at Art After Hours.

The Cotton Company features an Artists Reception and Wine Tasting during Art After Hours. Stroll through The Cotton Company Gallery to see the Artists work being featured that month, maybe get a chance to meet him/her and to take a look at The Cotton Company's resident artists' displays. Sip on the feature wine as you stroll the gallery. You can't leave The Cotton Company without strolling through the Marketplace to see over 60 boutiques, artists and crafts - you are sure to find a unique treasure for yourself, your home, or a gift.

Wake Forest Coffee Company is down the street, and you'll have to stop in to see what is brewing. Upstairs from the Coffee Company is the Twisted Vine Wine Shoppe. Our favorite Mexican restaurant is Las Margaritas, located underneath The Lemon Tree Boutique and Cafe. Stop in to have some dinner or hit Backfins Crabhouse for some seafood.

Our next Art After Hours is this Friday, March 11th from 6-9pm. Come to your historic downtown and see what's going on!

The audacity of some people. I thought I'd share with my blog readers and fellow web merchants the etiquette of working amicably together online, forming relationships, and helping each other be successful without hurting one another's business.

I have some very lovely relationships with fellow online retailers. I love their success, I love hearing about their success, and I love anything that they wish to share, and tidbits of wisdom to help us all make our businesses a little better. So I'm sharing with you my letter to a fellow web retailer outlining the lessons she is lacking in Online Merchant Etiquette.

Dear (Name protected),

It seems you may need a lesson in online marketing Etiquette. While it would have been a pleasure to get to know you as a fellow online seller, seeing as we have some suppliers in common, it seems you are not versed in how to establish a working relationship among fellow merchants.

I would have been happy to take a customer referral from you for my sterling silver jewelry and in return I would have gladly returned the favor. You have some lovely unique items I would have been thrilled to offer someone inquiring about, the *blank*, monogrammed *blank* or perhaps your lovely monogrammed *blank*.

But emailing me and asking for my supplier so you can serve your customer is simply appalling. A lot of research, travel, trial and error goes into finding the right supplier and to simply hand it over to an obvious competitor who has done none of the work or made none of the investment is ridiculous.

As it turns out, it looks like you have happened by my supplier by shear dumb luck and are now offering the same items on your web site. Not only have you found my supplier, but it looks as if you have pilfered my very images off my web site. I know this because I have a hidden watermark on my image and the very same images are on your web site. Not only do you need a lesson in ettiquette, it seems you also need a lesson in the legalities of copyright:

What Does Copyright Protect?
Original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression

A person's unique way of expressing something
Requires only a minimum amount of creativity
Does not protect underlying ideas or facts

Copyright infringement protection:
Protection is automatic
Copyright notice is not required

While some of the jewelry images are from the supplier, you have free use of these as a distributor, But the ones you lifted from my web site must be removed from your site immediately based on the above terms that my graphic designer has adapted into the images.

So I have officially made appeal unless you would like to be brought to lawsuit, for copyright infringement and to pay my graphic designer's tab, you will need to remove the images you have stolen from my web site from your web site immediately.

BTW-Cute Google Adwords Ads, I am sure to click on them whenever I see them. Oh, and You might want to try spell check before publishing your next ad.

My New Fall Cuff Designs and What to Wear with Them!

It's the first fews days of fall, and I think these change of seasonal designs posts are my favorite. I envision a design and what I would wear with it while I'm creating it my wide cuff bracelets. My Super Chili

Fall is upon us, and after a scorching summer here in the south, it is a welcome relief! We always look forward to football and a new menu of fall comfort foods in our house. Everybody loves a burger, but after a summer full of barbecues, burgers, and hot dogs, we are looking for a change of season!

Last night, I made my first pot of chili for the season! Even though this is an awesome comfort food, our family is really health conscious, so I thought I'd share with my blog readers my recipe for my super yummy, super nutrient filled chili that even my kids love! So here goes:

Dawn's Super Chili
(makes enough to feed a party or a family of 4 and freezes well)

2lbs of extra lean ground sirloin/beef (97/3)
1 large sweet onion
Chili Power to taste
Ground Cumin to taste
Garlic Powder to taste
Salt to taste
1 large can of red kidney beans
4 cans of pinto beans
2 cans of diced tomatoes with chilies
1 Fresh Jalapeno for additional heat (optional)
1 large bottle of V8 vegetable juice

In a large stockpot get the super lean ground beef browning. Do not add additional oil, cook the beef on medium heat to it releases its fat and creates its own non-stick fats and oils. Cook it too fast and it will burn and not use its own fats.

After breaking up the beef, toss in the chopped onion, a palm full of chili powder, a palm full of ground cumin, approximately 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, and approximately 1 tsp of salt to season the beef. If you like your chili hot, add a diced Jalapeno now (optional)

Open up the cans of beans over the sink and put them in a pasta strainer and drain and rinse them! Packagers pack most beans in corn syrup and nobody needs this extra SUGAR!!!!!!! uGH!!!!!

After the meat is browned, do not drain. There should be no more than a teaspoon of liquid left in the bottom of the pot if your beef is super lean. If you have more, drain. Do not rinse your meat. You loose ALLLLLLL of the seasoning you put in the pot when browning.

Return meat to medium low heat, add tomatoes, drained and rinsed beans, and pour in enough V8 juice to just cover the beans in the pot. You'll use all but about 1 or 1/2 cups of the V8. Bring to a simmer and simmer for approximately 5 minutes on medium low. Stir and taste. Add more spices to your liking. I usually add about a tablespoon of chili powder and a half a tablespoon of cumin and a dash of salt toward the end of simmering. Simmer an additional 10 minutes on low and taste again. If you have seasoned enough, you will not taste the V8 juice at all. (I don't like V8 juice on its own, so this is how I gauge a good pot O' Chili) Simmer on low until ready to serve. The longer it warms on low the better it is.

Garnish with shredded sharp cheddar cheese, sour cream, and corn chips....all optional, but my kids love the garnishes and I know that they are getting a ton of V8 juice, so I don't mind!

Notes of Southern Charm

Is it time to write an obituary to the charm and grace of the handwritten note? Day Trip Inspired Jewelry Designs; Crabs Can be Sparkly and Chic too!

This new cuff design was road trip inspired. We spent the day exploring the coast of Wilmington, NC with visiting family. We hopped the ferry at Southport and cruised over to Bald Head Island where we toured the Smith Museum and Old Baldy Lighthouse. What a fabulous piece of paradise. If you've never ferried over to Bald Head, you must. If you find yourself at any of the North Carolina Beaches, south of the Outer Banks look up Southport ferry for a day trip.

First, they have the most fabulous new ferry terminal where you sit out on the porch underneath the fans, and rock in a good ol' southern rocker while looking out over the water waiting for the ferry. They have a snack bar, restrooms, air conditioned areas, a gift shop, information, and plenty of parking!

I highly recommend renting a golf cart in advance if you would like to explore the island on your own. There are no cars allowed on Bald Head Island and there aren't any golf carts to rent if you haven't reserved in advance. But if you would like to see the lighthouse, it is within walking distance of the ferry landing, which is what we did.

Thank goodness for a few provisional shops along the way! Grandma blew out her flip flop, and instead of cruising on back home, we stopped in one of the beach shops and bought her a new pair of treads.

And none such inspiration comes to me except when I'm away from the office and my workshop that I come up with inspiration like my new crabby chic cuff bracelet design.

Monograms are a uniquely personal, they make gifts truly thoughtful! With so many options available today for monogramming gifts, jewelry, and cars and home decor, I thought I would publish a handbook, some etiquette or "the monogramming bible" guidelines, per se, that are traditionally used for monogramming. About monograms, what is a monogram?

It seems obvious, but a monogram is a letter used to signify one’s entire name. A monogram may be one or more letters. The “more” letters will be explained in a bit. Here is an example of a single monogram for “Dawn”, choosing to use her first name monogram.

When a single letter is used, it is usually the first letter of the persons first name or last name. For example, if Jane Doe Smith you would monogram with a single J or a single S.

Depending on the item you are having monogrammed, you might choose the first name or the last name. If I was buying Jane a monogrammed coffee tumbler or a piece of jewelry especially for her, I would probably monogram it with and "J". If I am putting a single letter monogrammed license plate on her family's car or for a flag for her mailbox, I would monogram it with a "S" for the family.

Two letters - Two letters can symbolize one persons first and last name. In Jane Doe Smith's two letter monogram it would be "JS". This would be done in any single letter font with no structural design like this:

Three letters - The first letter of one persons first, middle, and last names. You would be monogramming their initials if for Jane Doe Smith your monogrammed "JDS". Special formats are used to set the last name off and in this case, Jane Doe Smith looks like this "jSd", the family name or the initial of the person's last name is featured in the middle with a fancy font like this:

The first letter of the persons last name is larger and placed in the center with the first initial and the middle initial on each side. With all three letters the same size, the letters appear in the order the name is normally written and this is referred to one's initial's like this:

Monogram for Couples

One letter - A single letter can symbolize the first letter of a couples or families last name. Jane and John Doe's monogram could be just "D"

Two letters - Two letters can symbolize two persons first names. Jane and John Doe's monogram could be:
JJ, but this is not really common.

Three letters - Three letters can stand for or a couples first and last names. For weddings, usually the order is like this:
1. First initial is woman's first name initial
2. Middle initial is initial of couples last name
3. Last initial is man's first name initial
So in the example below, if couples names were Brenda and Gregory Martin, you would list the monogram as: BMG

A Post-Publish on Wedding Monograms...

A couple may use their first name initials prior to the wedding and during the ceremony. For example, their wedding invitation may state J + J for John and Jane. However, their last name initial should be reserved for use for post wedding ceremony and their married life. For example, a couple could use their married initial of "S" for Smith on the beverage napkins for the cocktail hour after the ceremony.

A Word on Gender Monograms

Interlocking monogram is normally used for females only. With both the Interlocking and Round Monograms, the last name will be the largest letter in the center. Like this:

The Round Monogram can be used for both males and females. The Block Monogram (normally the male monogram) will appear First Name, Middle Name, and Last Name in all caps. Like this:

Cursive lettering is for full names like "Jane", dates, or written text like a team name, etc. Like the example below:

I don't know if you watch any of the Bravo Housewives shows...I've watched them all...and I can't tell you why. I have no explanation for my actions.

I know an auction of possessions is public information.

Forclosure proceedings on a property is public information.

Not only is this public information, but it also becomes a media feed, which begets a media circus, which begets a fan frenzy...even if you are a "any list celebrity".

As much as I might watch this sort of "reality" television, I really didn't want to know this foreclosure information about Teresa and her family. It makes me sad, like if it happened to my neighbor or my friend. There's nothing you can do about it as they are being smeared publicly.

This particular headline hit a blog, and the comments that followed the blog were alarming. Who in their right mind would say that someone "deserves" the loss of their home and possessions?

I wish her and her family the best, and I'm sorry that they have had to file for chapter 7. Irregardless as to how they have handled their real estate business, that's none of my business. As a human being, I wish them the best. These have been some hard times on some industries, real estate being one in particular.

I am so excited about a competing virtual venue for Etsy. If you are a happy shopper at Etsy, good for you. But you might want to click away now because this is going to get ugly.

As a seller on Etsy I became increasingly frustrated at how they manage their site. Etsy has "written" and "posted" and "quoted" on many occasions their guidelines for items to be sold in their "Handmade Marketplace". Basically what I'm talking about here is the difference between "ARTs and CRAFTS" and mass machine produced bits that get a manufactured bow put on it by the seller and sold on Etsy as handmade. The integrity of Art on Etsy has been lost and I don't mind saying so publicly.

Etsy has let this happen, it is unfortunate, yes and they have defended their decisions to run their site into the ground by "not turning away anyone who wants to sell on Etsy"...as stated by an admin in their forums. "Everyone has a platform on Etsy".

Well, I have news for Etsy. As soon as you stop caring what people post to sell on your site, you become eBay and you are no longer a "handmade" marketplace.

I can only hope that the competing marketplace of Artfire, and some other art oriented start ups, can remind Etsy, via virtual competition, what exactly is considered Art. People vote with their dollars, and my dollars are headed to Artfire.

I was reading a lovely blog the other day that was featuring beautiful pictures and descriptions of a fantastic piece of jewelry. This was not an expensive piece of jewelry, we're talking less than a few hundred dollars.

That's not what struck me as I was reading this blog. In fact, what moved me deeply was in the comment section under the blog.

Dozens of ladies had responded to this featured piece of jewelry. All loving it more than the next. Swooning with love and comments and admiration at this relatively affordable piece of jewelry.

So getting to the point of what shocked me.

Tell me if this shocks you too.

Not a single one of the lovely ladies thought for a second that they could buy this piece of jewelry for themselves.

Be it motherly, womanly nature to put everybody's needs foremost before they fulfill their own wants and desires.

I get that.

Each one of these ladies commented that "maybe for my birthday", "maybe for Christmas", maybe for "Valentines day" I'll put this on my wish list as a gift my "other" can get me.

Here's the thing.

We treat ourselves to spa treatments and dozens of mani-pedi's that in total cost more than this piece of jewelry.

We buy designer bags at hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars.

We get our hair done, cut, colored and styled for as much as this piece of jewelry costs.

We hit the one day sale at Kohls with our cash back bonus and spend more money than this piece of jewelry.

Why do women sometimes feel like they can't buy themselves jewelry? Do their husbands give them grief? Do they feel guilty? Tell me your thoughts!

Leather Obsession

I really like working with this swanky "leather" medium on my new cuff bracelets. This one is an ode to summer, a sort of abstract silver starfish. I'm thinking "summer night out on the town" with this one.

Of course, I had to try black leather too. I love this black "leather" cuff that is bursting with rhinestones. Bling Bling, girls! I'm thinking LBD (little black dress).

Summer Thunder Boomers!

Last night we had one of those hot summer night thunder storms that shook the whole house! I love those, they are both scary and interesting at the same time. We even lost power which is very cool until the the electronics in the house won't be quiet trying to alert us to the power outage. Things start beeping and buzzing!

We sure did need the rain, but it didn't cool our southern summer temperatures down at all!

My girls and I jumped in the car after leaving the pool today (where we totally failed at staying cool) and the thermometer in the car read 108 degrees!!!!! Ugh.

We just returned from our annual family vacation in Hilton Head, South Carolina. If you've never been, it is like no other beach location on the east coast. You must visit once! Once was never enough for our family, we've been going back to Hilton Head Island for over 10 years. Here's a pic of "some" of the charm...

If you're wondering...does Carolina Clover have anything to do with Dawn being Irish? The answer is no. I'm not Irish, or at least I don't think I am. When we took a leap of faith over 4 years ago and moved our family to North Carolina from the overstuffed nation's capital, we found four leaf clovers all over our new yard. They might be weeds to most people, but I was always told that four leaf clovers meant "good luck", but the Celtic legend goes that each leaf of a four leaf clover holds a different meaning: luck, love, hope, and faith.

Do I scour the stores for four leaf clover "stuff" around St. Patrick's Day. Yes I do, and what I mostly find is three leaf clovers ;-(. And when I see a three leaf clover that says "good luck", I'm disappointed in the marketing machine because they didn't do their homework.

This St. Patrick's Day, and everyday there after, I wish you and yours Luck, Love Hope, and Faith!

Inspiration is a Funny Thing

My inspiration and creativity is like an aloof cat. You know, like getting a glimpse of a cute and fuzzy fur-ball kitten peering at you from under a piece of furniture, you walk toward it and it backs into the shadows out of reach. Discouraged, you walk away only to realize it is looking at you again, so you think, "maybe if I ignore this little sweetness it will decide that I am harmless and come be my best friend". It doesn't, it continues to hide until all you want to do is get your hands on that cute and fuzzy fur-ball. The more you obsess about it, the worse it gets. Then one day, you've forgotten about it and become completely engrossed in something else, and the next you know this little sweetness is rubbing against your leg and purring from a loudspeaker. Yes, that is my creativity.

And thus, the involved explanation of why I haven't had a blog post since January 6th, or new items added to my web site recently, or anything "new" at all. I'm filling orders, just lacking creativity for newness! I quit obsessing about it and took off to Las Vegas for four days. So not ONLY do I have to de-decorate my house of Christmas wreaths, garland, and tree, I also have to de-decorate the Carolina Clover Web site that featured Christmas Arrivals, Last Minute Gifts, and Custom Jewelry Requests for the holidays.

I think I'm REALLY getting into the Christmas spirit of giving this year...early...and with more enthusiasm than I usually do. I am usually hugely offended to see ANYTHING "Christmas" before Thanksgiving, but this year I was HUGELY offended by seeing Christmas decorations before Halloween.

This year, I think, it is a little different. I mean, once we get back from all our turkey stuffing and celebrating it will be DECEMBER 1st. Which really only leaves two weeks for decorating and online ordering and then everything else is considered "last minute", how can that be??????

So when I saw these stockings, I think I actually swooned for them. They are in limited supply, so if interested in ordering a cutie stocking for someone special...ahem...you might want to order ASAP.
